As part of London Climate Action Week 2026, Climate and Sustainability Initiative (CSI), together with E3G, Dalberg, and the UK Government, co-hosted a high-level roundtable on Financing Clean Energy Transitions in London on 26th June 2026, Friday. The discussion convened senior representatives from governments, financial institutions, industry, development finance organisations, and think tanks across India, the United Kingdom, and Europe to examine how international partnerships can accelerate clean energy investment and strengthen financing flows for the energy transition. The roundtable formed part of a broader dialogue on deepening clean technology partnerships, trade, and investment between India, the UK, and the European Union.
Discussions focused on the structural barriers that continue to raise the cost of capital for clean energy investments in emerging economies. Participants highlighted that investment decisions are shaped not only by project fundamentals but also by factors such as currency risk, investor confidence, market maturity, ecosystem development, and the availability of credible exit pathways. The dialogue underscored the importance of strengthening financial architecture through innovative risk mitigation instruments, blended finance mechanisms, guarantees, insurance solutions, and transparent climate finance taxonomies that can improve project bankability and attract greater participation from international investors.
The roundtable reinforced the need for deeper international collaboration to translate climate finance commitments into tangible investment outcomes. Participants identified practical actions for governments, financial institutions, industry, and development partners to strengthen India’s investment ecosystem, mobilise greater cross-border capital, and accelerate clean energy deployment over the coming years. The insights from the discussion will contribute to CSI’s ongoing work on climate finance, international cooperation, and policy, supporting efforts to build stronger partnerships that advance secure, resilient, and sustainable energy transitions across emerging economies
