Position: Intern Profile – Central Government Climate Landscaping
Location: New Delhi (Hybrid)
Reporting to: Engagement Lead

Background: The Climate and Sustainability Initiative (CSI) works closely with various government departments to facilitate India’s transition to a low-carbon economy. This effort requires a comprehensive understanding of existing policies, initiatives, and institutional anchors across central government ministries. This internship is designed to support that mapping process.

The objective of the Internship is to develop a comprehensive landscape of climate, sustainability, and sectoral transition-related policies and initiatives across all relevant central government ministries and departments, including identifying nodal persons and relevant institutional structures.

Scope of Work: The intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Desk Research:
    • Review websites, policy documents, reports, and press releases of all relevant central government ministries.
    • Identify ongoing and past initiatives related to climate action, energy transition, sustainable mobility, industrial decarbonisation, environmental regulation, adaptation, and climate finance.
  2. Policy Mapping:
    • Compile a list of relevant policies and schemes under each ministry/department.
    • Classify initiatives under thematic buckets (e.g., energy, transport, finance, MSMEs, agriculture, forest & environment, water, etc.).
  3. Institutional Mapping:
    • Identify nodal divisions/units within each ministry that oversee climate and sustainability-related work.
    • Collect contact details (emails/phone numbers if publicly available) and names of key officers/points of contact.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Governance, Economics, Sustainability, or related fields.
  • Strong research and analytical skills; ability to navigate government websites and official documents.
  • Familiarity with India’s climate policy landscape and central government institutional structures is an advantage.
  • Proficient in data organization and documentation (Excel, Word, PowerPoint/Google Workspace).
  • Detail-oriented, self-driven, and capable of working independently.
